The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has formally disowned the grassroots elections in Bomet County, declaring the process unauthorised and legally invalid, even as internal tensions rise following disputed party primaries in Emurua Dikirr Constituency.

In an official notice dated March 30, 2026, and signed by Director of Communication Nathaniel Mong’are, the party made it clear that no such elections had been sanctioned.

“We wish to notify all Party Members in Bomet County that the Party HAS NOT CALLED for any meeting to conduct Polling Centre Executive Committee Election as circulated,” the notice states.

The party said that all internal electoral processes must strictly adhere to established procedures.

“Any Party election MUST be sanctioned by the National Elections Board (NEB) and officially communicated using official channels,” Mong’are said.

UDA further cautioned its members against engaging in or recognising any unauthorised activities.

“Any meeting claiming to carry out elections without approval of the Party is NULL AND VOID and must be disregarded,” the statement emphasised.

This development comes just days after the party initiated its internal dispute resolution mechanism following a controversial nomination exercise in Emurua Dikirr.

The Electoral and Nomination Dispute Resolution Committee (ENDRC), chaired by Adrian Kamotho, announced that it would receive and adjudicate all complaints arising from the grassroots elections and ongoing nominations.

Widespread accusations, including bribery, marred the Friday, March 27, 2026, primaries in Emurua Dikirr, repeat voting, and proxy voting across multiple polling stations, casting doubt on the credibility of the process.

In the closely contested race, David Kipsang Keter was declared the winner after garnering 13,759 votes, narrowly defeating Bernard Kipkoech Ng’eno, who secured 13,394 votes.

Despite the concerns raised by candidates and their supporters, UDA National Elections Board Vice Chairperson Veronica Chebet defended the exercise.

“The voting process has been smooth, free of any ugly incidents. The tallying is complete, and the winner has emerged as Keter as per the wishes of the voters,” she said.

Meanwhile, the ENDRC had urged dissatisfied participants to follow due process when seeking redress.

“All electoral disputes should be lodged before the ENDRC within twenty-four (24) hours, upon declaration of results or nomination decision giving rise to respective dispute,” the committee stated, noting that submissions may also be made electronically.

The unfolding situation  follows growing internal friction within UDA, as the party moves to contain fallout, enforce discipline, and safeguard the integrity of its electoral processes ahead of the 2027 showdown.
