Bomet, Kenya - Former Chepalungu Member of Parliament, Ambassador John Koech, has passed away. The veteran leader died in Nairobi on Tuesday morning after battling an illness for more than a month, according to his youngest son, Kiptuiya Kosonei.
Koech, who also served as an assistant minister, had been receiving treatment in hospital when his condition took a turn for the worse. Kosonei described his father's death as a devastating loss to the family, saying the absence of the prominent figure had already left a profound void.
“It’s been hard for us,” said Kosonei, his voice heavy with grief. “We are a family in mourning, and we ask for prayers and strength as we navigate this difficult time.”
As news of Koech’s passing spread, a palpable sadness gripped Chepalungu, where he had been a beloved figure for over a decade. The community, which had witnessed his dedication and leadership, was left stunned, holding on to memories of his time in office.
Robert Too, a local resident, expressed the collective sentiment: “Amb. Koech’s legacy will never be forgotten. We will forever remember him for his selfless service to the people.”
The former MP’s influence stretched far beyond his constituency, with leaders from across the country expressing their condolences. Bomet Senator Wakili Hillary Sigei called Koech's passing a loss not only to Bomet but to the entire nation.
“Amb. Koech was a leader who touched many lives. His passing leaves a gap that will be felt deeply throughout the country,” Sigei remarked.
As the family and community mourn the loss of a revered leader, they find comfort in the enduring impact Koech had on the people he served. His memory will forever remain etched in the hearts of those whose lives he touched
