CHEPALUNGU – President William Ruto has expressed confidence in his performance record as he gears up for the 2027 general elections, declaring he has “nothing to fear” in the upcoming political contest.
Speaking during the burial of former Chepalungu MP, Ambassador John Koech, President Ruto said he will approach the next election with a development-centered scorecard, highlighting his administration’s achievements in key sectors.
“I have a scorecard to present, and I am ready to win the 2027 exam,” Ruto said. “Those planning to face off with me must come up with a better plan—or else, they will suffer a humiliating defeat.”
The Head of State was flanked by Cabinet Secretaries Davis Chirchir (Energy), Kipchumba Murkomen (Roads and Transport), and several political leaders from the Rift Valley region.
Ruto emphasized that his campaign will be anchored on tangible progress, citing milestones in health care, agriculture, education, and job creation for the youth.
He singled out the Social Health Assurance (SHA) program as a flagship success, noting that over 21 million Kenyans have already enrolled in the Universal Health Coverage scheme. He urged citizens to support the initiative by enrolling and ensuring timely premium payments.
“The SHA is already taking shape. It is the best health cover we’ve had, and I encourage every Kenyan to take advantage of it,” the president said.
President Ruto’s remarks in Chepalungu mark a strategic early campaign pitch, signaling a confident bid to retain power. By framing the 2027 contest as an “exam” he is ready to ace, Ruto seeks to shift the political narrative from rhetoric to results.
His emphasis on the Social Health Assurance program and youth employment initiatives suggests a deliberate move to connect with ordinary Kenyans, particularly those feeling the pinch of economic strain.
By leaning on a performance-based reelection strategy, the president is daring his rivals to present viable alternatives—raising the bar for opposition politics.
With over two years to the next general election, Ruto’s message is clear: the campaign has unofficially begun, and he is stepping into the arena with his record in hand.
