Baringo, Bartabwa March 1 - President William Ruto has announced that the construction of Baringo University will commence in April, following final approvals from the Commission for University Education (CUE).
Speaking on Saturday, March 1, during the burial of Baringo Senator William Cheptumo, Ruto affirmed his commitment to fulfilling the long-awaited project. He stated that once CUE completes its review process within the next month, construction will officially begin.
"We have submitted applications to the Commission for University Education. Once the process is completed in the next month, we will begin building in April, God willing," Ruto said.
The president emphasized that the university would be a tribute to the late Senator Cheptumo’s dedication to education. He also drew parallels with former President Daniel Moi’s legacy, referencing Moi’s efforts in establishing a university in Eldoret.
"I made a commitment to the people of Baringo—I am the one building a university in this county, and I will see it through," he assured.
Following public consultations, Kabarnet Town, the county headquarters, was selected as the university’s location. The decision came after initial differences among elected leaders, who had each pushed for the institution to be developed in their respective constituencies.
"I am happy to hear that public consultation has been conducted and the leaders have consented. I have been informed that all of you are supportive of the project," Ruto noted.
He further highlighted that investing in educational infrastructure in rural areas would not only promote learning but also drive economic transformation, fostering balanced development across the country.
