Mystery Deepens Over MP Koimburi’s Alleged Abduction and Chemical Attack

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has alleged that Juja MP George Koimburi was injected with a harmful chemical during a mysterious abduction that left him unable to speak.
Speaking at Karen Hospital on Monday, May 26, Gachagua claimed medical experts informed Koimburi’s family that the MP's sudden loss of voice was caused by a chemical substance, possibly administered during the ordeal. The MP is currently hospitalized in stable condition and under close observation.
“He was abducted in broad daylight, in full view of congregants, by a squad that even attempted to harm his wife,” Gachagua said. “He was later discovered brutally beaten and tortured in a coffee plantation in Kibichoi. According to doctors, the injuries appear to have been professionally inflicted.”
Koimburi, a close political ally of Gachagua, is currently unable to speak and can only communicate through writing. Doctors suspect the chemical—believed to have been introduced via inhalation—may have damaged his vocal cords. However, they remain hopeful about his recovery.
The MP was found early Monday morning in the Jacaranda coffee plantation in Githunguri, Kiambu County, nearly 12 hours after his family reported him missing.
Despite the dramatic claims, police are treating the incident with caution. Investigators have questioned the circumstances surrounding the reported abduction and are exploring alternative explanations, including the possibility that the event may have been staged.
One senior officer linked the case to an ongoing land dispute, noting that an attempt to arrest Koimburi last Friday, following a public event in Juja, was thwarted when he fled the scene on a motorcycle, reportedly accompanied by a security officer. His driver was later detained and questioned by detectives at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters.
“His phone remained off until Sunday, when reports began circulating that he had been abducted or arrested,” the officer added.
Detectives have since visited the church where Koimburi was last seen, the coffee plantation where he was discovered, and both medical facilities where he has received treatment. Forensic analysis of samples taken from the scene and the MP's body is currently underway as authorities work to piece together the truth behind the incident.
