Family, leaders and residents of Emurua Dikirr gathered in Mogondo to bid farewell to the late Johana Ngeno, whose life and leadership were celebrated during an emotional burial ceremony at his rural home.
The legislator, who represented Emurua Dikirr Constituency, was laid to rest days after a tragic helicopter crash that shocked the nation and cut short his political career.
In a heartfelt tribute, his widow, Naiyanoi Ng’eno, described her husband as more than a public servant, a loving partner and a pillar of strength in their family.
“My beloved Johana, your departure has left a great void in my heart. You were my husband, my friend, and my comfort. Your love will continue to live within us forever,” she said as mourners listened in silence.
Addressing their children, Cheruto and Chesang, she spoke of the deep love their father had for them and urged them to hold onto his memories.
“To our children Cheruto and Chesang, your father loved you very much and his memories will continue to live within you. And to our people of Emurua Dikirr, I will continue to be close to you. Johana, you were loved and you will be remembered,” she added.
Leaders who attended the ceremony called for answers following the accident that claimed the MP’s life.
Patrick Ole Ntutu, the governor of Narok County, urged authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the helicopter crash to establish its cause and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
Meanwhile, William Ruto announced that Shauri Moyo Housing Estate will be renamed Johanna Ng’eno Estate in honour of the late MP’s role in advancing the government’s Affordable Housing Programme.
The fatal crash occurred in Mosop, Nandi County on February 28, claiming the lives of six people.
Alongside Ngeno, the victims included Wycliffe Rono, Carlos Keter, Nick Kosgey, Amos Kipngetich and pilot George Were.
As the community mourns, many remember Ngeno as a dedicated leader whose legacy, both in public service and within his family, will continue to resonate among the people he served.
