CHEPALUNGU - Member of Parliament, Hon. Victor Koech Mandazi, on Friday officially launched the maintenance of the Kap Sammy–Kwandab Cherotich–Lelaitich–Kap London road—a vital 15-kilometer stretch that plays a key role in the region’s connectivity and economic activities.

Speaking during the launch, Hon. Koech underscored the importance of infrastructure development in transforming rural communities, pledging continued advocacy for more projects in the constituency.

“This road has been in a deplorable state for years, making the transportation of goods and the movement of people a nightmare. Today marks a new beginning. We are not just grading a road—we are opening up opportunities for our farmers, traders, students, and the entire community,” said Koech.

He emphasized that the project will enhance access to schools, health centers, and local markets, while also driving economic growth. He also assured residents that he will personally monitor the construction to ensure high-quality standards and timely completion.

Local residents welcomed the development. Poul Kirui, a farmer from Lelaitich, expressed his appreciation.

“For the longest time, we’ve suffered here. During the rainy season, this road becomes nearly impassable. Now that the MP has brought this project, we feel seen and heard. It will make it easier for us to take our produce to market and access healthcare without getting stuck along the way,” said Kirui.

The event was attended by local leaders, residents, and officials from the Ministry of Roads and Infrastructure. Maintenance work is set to begin immediately, with heavy machinery already deployed on site.

Hon. Koech also urged residents to support the project and work closely with contractors to ensure its success.

“Development is a collective effort. Let us own this project and protect what belongs to us,” he said.

In recent months, Hon. Koech has prioritized road infrastructure as a cornerstone of his development agenda. Several road projects are currently underway across the constituency, reflecting his commitment to improving connectivity and access to services.

Among the notable ongoing works is the 12-kilometer Kapkwen–Olbutyo–Siongiroi Road, which recently gained national attention. During the burial of Ambassador John Koech in Olbutyo on Tuesday, President William Ruto reaffirmed the government's commitment to completing the road.

These infrastructure developments are expected to greatly enhance local trade, improve transportation, and expand access to essential services throughout Chepalungu.
