Residents of Bomet County can now access better medical services closer to home as the county government equips sub-county hospitals with critical healthcare facilities. This move will save them the burden of traveling to larger hospitals for services like ICU care and minor surgeries.

Speaking during the launch of a new theater, ICU, and radiology department at Sigor Hospital, Governor Prof. Hillary Barchok reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in the county.

The governor also urged residents to register for the Social Health Authority (SHA) insurance, noting that Bomet ranks second among the 47 counties in SHA registrations, with claims surpassing KSh 4 million. He pledged to push Bomet to the top position within three weeks. The reimbursement from SHA, he added, will further enhance healthcare accessibility across county facilities.

Joseph Towett, an administrator at Sigor Sub-County Hospital, praised Governor Barchok for equipping the facility with a radiology department, a theater, and both male and female surgical wards. He noted that Sigor, now a Level Four hospital, will serve not only Bomet residents but also those from neighboring Narok County.

Towett highlighted that, for years, patients had to be referred to hospitals such as Longisa and Tenwek. However, with the upgraded facilities, local healthcare services have greatly improved. He also emphasized that common illnesses in the region include respiratory tract and skin infections.

Additionally, Towett confirmed that SHA is making a significant impact, as Sigor Hospital has already received financial support through the scheme.

With these advancements, Bomet County is making major strides in bringing quality healthcare closer to its people.
