A suspected case of contaminated beef consumption has left more than 22 families from Masindoni village in Chepalungu Sub-county hospitalized.

According to a police report, Chelelach Assistant Chief Richard Koech alerted the authorities on Sunday afternoon regarding the suspected case of contaminated beef.

Koech stated that Janet Terer, 39, authorized the slaughter of the cow, but none of her immediate family members consumed the meat.

Confirming the incident, Bomet County Police Commander Edward Imbwaga said the affected families consumed the carcass of a cow that had died.

"Some people took meat from a dead cow that had not been tested for human consumption, and our officers have found the owner of the cow," Imbwaga said.

Investigations revealed that the cow belonged to Janet Terer and had been ill for nearly two weeks before dying on the night of February 16.

According to Mr. Koech, more than 50 people consumed the meat and were rushed to a private hospital in Ndanai for treatment.

Janet Terer has since been arrested and placed in custody as authorities conduct further investigations.

Imbwaga has urged residents to refrain from consuming meat that has not been inspected by health officials.

"The owner of the cow has been arrested, and I want to urge residents to avoid consuming any meat that has not been tested," he emphasized.
